The Fudgiest Brownies That Ever Lived

The title doesn't lie: These are the fudgiest brownies that ever lived.



But they didn't live long. We scarfed down this batch fast, indulging after a long week of multiple moves and all the headaches that go along with relocating.

Okay, so we just moved to the building next door, but it's still a move! We're now in a lovely ground floor suite, which means I get a yard and several hundred more square feet - including a lot more kitchen space. It's so refreshing to be have enough cupboards for all my things, and the space to use them.


But enough about me, and more about you. Go make these brownies now! It will be the best thing you've done all day.

Chocolate Overload Cookies

Is there even such a thing as chocolate overload?


No. But there is such a thing as a lot of chocolate, and that's what I've achieved here. Milk, dark, and white chocolate form a holy trifecta in this classic chocolate chip cookie recipe-- one of my favourite comfort foods.


You know you've made a good cookie when your boyfriend secretly stashes them away, hoarding them for himself.

Yes, darling, I saw the cookies behind the sugar jar. You can't hide things in my kitchen.

Easy Weeknight Chow Mein

Nothing beats a stir-fry for weeknight meal simplicity.


And chow mein is a comfort classic around here. It's so easy to whip together, and a great way to clear out neglected vegetables in the fridge. I used broccoli and carrots in this batch because we had a ton extra, but red peppers, celery, bean sprouts - really any other vegetable - blend perfectly. Feel free to switch up the meat, too, or leave it out completely for a vegetarian twist.

Dairy-free Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins

What do you do when you run out of milk but still want blueberry muffins? Make some dairy-free ones!


I know -- such an obvious solution, right? Dairy-free recipes and I don't always get along, what with me being allergic to pretty much everything and all, but every now and then I come across one that fits into my restrictions. A bit more dense than my regular recipe, these blueberry oatmeal muffins still turned out great and have made mornings a bit brighter (and easier) while we unpack in our new apartment. (More on that later...)


They're even boy approved!

Pepperoni Pizza on the Grill

Nothing short of a wood-burning oven can top the taste of pizza fresh off the grill. 


Sure, getting it on the grill in one piece can involve some spatula gymnastics, but smaller pizza sizes with less toppings can solve that dilemma. Unless you're like my family, then you need it plastered with cheese and meat. But you're still best to be light on the toppings to avoid soggy crusts.


Want to try? It's as easy as 1-2-3! 

First, you heat your bbq to 400F - 425F. Roll out your dough, turn the heat down low, and grill one side until golden brown (about 2-5 minutes) and remove from the heat. 

Second, just flip it over and add your toppings to the grilled side. 

Third, you barbecue it again over a low flame (the oven temp should be the same as step 1) until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown on the bottom. It takes hardly any time compared to the oven, and the pizza is infinitely better.

Glazed Doughnuts

Doughnuts donuts doughnuts donuts doughnuts donuts. The debate rages on. But no matter what you call them, these Krispy Kreme-inspired treats are the best I've made.


And owning a deep fryer made them the easiest batch I've ever made, too! My apartment only kind of smelled like a Tim Hortons, and they were done and fried within minutes with minimal clean up.


An easy-to-make doughnut? I'm as scared as you are. But there's no reason to fear these-- they're fried and fabulous.


I adapted this recipe from my old one for glazed and sugar-coated donuts. The updated recipe should be easier to follow, but still includes measurements by weight, which I definitely find the most accurate and simplest way to bake. If you don't have one already, please pick up a scale! It's one of the best kitchen investments you can make. Trust.

Triple Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

There's nothing quite like a new spin on an old classic.


This is the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie recipe my mom has been making since I was teeny tiny. They made their debut on our table after appearing in my preschool cookbook, a collection of recipes from each family. That we've been making them for the last 23+ years really speaks to how easy and tasty they are.

We decided to spice up the recipe with a chocolate chip trio -- white, dark, and milk chocolate -- and ended up with an even more decadent cookie that tastes a little more modern than the traditional variety.


Don't let the oatmeal fool you, though; these aren't exactly the healthiest cookies out there. But they are some of the tastiest. Feel free to throw in some nuts, too, if you aren't the type to, you know, die from that.

No-Bake S'mores Bars

The boyfriend has been bugging me for ages to make him rocky road bars. For ages! This resulted in a disagreement over what rocky road actually was (nuts or no nuts?! brownie or chocolate square?!) and the best method to prepare it. 


These no-bake s'mores bars shut us the hell up.

They're so easy, so quick, and so tasty that we completely forgot about wanting rocky road, and happily devoured a tray of these instead. The total prep time is about 15 minutes, and if you don't mind them being a bit warm and goopy, they can be eaten right away. I suspect they'd also be super tasty made into s'mores bars, which I think is my next project...

Garden Party with Xoxo Couture

What do you get when you combine cupcakes, little girls, and tutus? Oh, just the most adorable garden party ever.


I was fortunate enough to partner with my long-time friend Aimee (we go waaayyy back to Kindergarten!) for a photoshoot for her awesome bride and baby business, Xoxo Couture.


The girls enjoyed chocolate cupcakes topped with swirled icing and whimsical fondant flower decorations while they partied and played in the adorable tutus that are signature to Xoxo Couture.

The Basic Beef Burger Patty

Sometimes it's nice to just keep things simple.


My life was made complete a few weeks ago with a brand new barbecue, and we aren't even close to being finished exploring all the options that are now available to us. Kebobs, steak, hot dogs, and burgers now make a regular appearance on our table. But freezer box-brand burgers leave a lot wanting, and I wanted to create a simple burger patty recipe that can be frozen for future use.

Cheap and easy, these burgers go from prep to grill in no time!
